The Valleys Planning CouncilÂ is pleased to announceÂ Elizabeth Buxton asÂ itsÂ next executive director. “Liz”Â assumed the position on March 2Â andÂ replaces Teresa Moore who has served in that position for the past ten years. TeresaÂ will continue to assist VPC duringÂ the transitionÂ beforeÂ officially steppingÂ down at the end of March toÂ pursue other opportunities in the public or private sector.
Liz previouslyÂ served as director of the Maryland Environmental Trust (MET), the only statewide land trust. She has over 20 years of experience in historic, cultural and scenic resource preservation withÂ non-profits andÂ state and local governments.Â During her tenure atÂ MET, the organization accepted more than 100 conservation easements and permanentlyÂ protectedÂ overÂ 12,800 acresÂ ofÂ scenicÂ open space in Maryland.Â She alsoÂ led efforts toÂ developÂ a Long Range Plan and Accreditation Work Plan for MET andÂ expandedÂ itsÂ annual conference andÂ roundtable meetings for land trusts.Â Â Prior to working for MET, LizÂ wasÂ development and communications director for Preservation Maryland and also served as executive director of Scenic Maryland.Â Â Earlier in her career, Liz served as executive director of Historic Wilmington Foundation in NC.Â LizÂ is a graduate of the College of Charleston andÂ a native ofÂ Tidewater, Virginia.
